There are two ways to watch 3-D content on your 3-D TV. Some 3-D TVs have a 2D/3D converter built into them that allows 2-D content to be translated into 3-D helps rewrite 2-D content into 3-D format, even close to real-time speeds (such as TV telecast speeds). However, such algorithms are only an approximation, and usually cannot match the real capturing of the content from two different angles.

True 3-D content is filmed in 3-D especially for the 3-D TV experience. The content has two sets of images one mean for the left eye and the other set for the right eye. Such content is normally generated by shooting the same event with multiple cameras, and superimposing the two images in a certain way. You need a Blu-ray player and HDMI cables to be able to enjoy a good 3-D experience on TV.

There are many movies like Avatar and Resident Evil and video games already available that have been created for 3-D. Plans for 3-D TV channels are also underway.

Sony is involved at every stage of the 3-D value chain and draws on its expertise in professional solutions, consumer electronics and gaming alike.
